Charlotte Hatherley

Her vid for "Bastardo" had many a comedy performer in. Directed by Edgar Wright (Her boyfriend at the time), he had the contacts to bring in a few famous faces. These include: David Walliams, Simon Pegg, Lucy Davis (The Office), Julia Davis (Nighty Night), Alice Lowe (Garth Marenghi) and even Lauren Laverne!

Mash and Peas!

Old footage of early Lucas/Walliams partnership. Edgar Wright also directed it. It's a bit surreal.

The show was for the Paramount Comedy Channel and Channel 4 and was originally shown back in 1996.

Garth Marenghi Music

The classic opening titles, followed by the epic One Track Lover. Both brilliant.

Take a chance...

Love it.

OK this is not meant to be funny but....

The only funny bit is the actual fall and him shouting, "C'MON!!" then falling. His jokes were not.

Cult Classic #2 - Snuff Box

"If I should die from small pox, put my remains in my snuff box" - what words eh. Probably the first time someone has rhymed "small pox" with "snuff box".

Original run: 6 Episodes in 2006

As the opening song plays (probably the sanest part of this comedy) it sets you up for the most random and wacky comedy experience you'll have for a while. British and American humour collide as Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher play as a hangman and his assistant.

I'm suprised this stayed below the radar when it came out. Only shown late on BBC3. But overtime, and with the popular emergence of Matt Bery and Rich Fulcher, the series is getting more and more hits on Youtube. Anyway check it out, it's a great comedy.

It's a rough place....

Popstars Parody

Parody of "Popstars" for Comic Relief from way back in 2001.

Funny in places mainly from Rowan Atkinson, Simon Pegg and Peter Serafinowicz. I can't stand Lenny Henry usually but he's "OK" in this. Also it's a bit out of sync from the middle to the end. Check it out...

Cult Classics #1 - Bruiser

Bruiser

Starring: In this you will find a young Olivia Coleman, David Mitchell, Robert Webb, Martin Freeman, Matthew Holness and Charlotte Hudson! This series also includes additional material from Richard Ayoade and Ricky Gervais.

Original Run: 6 episodes in 2000

Being a big fan of Garth Marenghi, The Office and Mitchell and Webb, I thought this would be a winner...

...and it is! Well it has its moments anyway. Some sketches were your bog standard sketches that you see in most sketch shows, but some were original and really did stand out. I could easily see the Mitchell/Webb and the Holness/Ayoade comedy writing style in this. A few were "wacky" when others were clever, and that made a dynamic sketch show that's worth a watch. The varied pace of the show will be down to the array of talented up-and-coming (well back in 2000) comedy writers and actors.

Clips:

The clip below is a one of a series of sketches where the "psycho" finds himself in various situations asking how dangerous and lethal things are. I can see this acting style in recent Mitchell and Webb sketches. Check it out.

Another series of sketches below. All are David Mitchell being sarcastic in different jobs. Funny.

Red Dwarf to return?

So Robert Lewellen has announced that Red Dwarf will be returning for it's 10th Series. Hang on a minute!! 10th series?! Where did the 9th one go? Surely they can't count "Back to Earth" as a series? Pah!

Ol' Bobby quotes from his Twitter account, ‘Series 10 of Red Dwarf announcement just been made at DJ 09. To clarify the scripts have been commissioned, won't be filming til 2010.’

Good news for all you Red Dwarf fans, but bad news if it doesn't have any canned laughter again. I'm usually not a big fan of it (see My Family) but for Red Dwarf, it kind of worked!

Bunny and the Bull (2009)

Release date: 27th November 2009.

After viewing the trailer this could be funny. The writer/director is none other than Paul King. If you don't know who he is, he's the director of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The Mighty Boosh!

Edward Hogg and Simon Farnaby star in the film alongside Veronica Echegui in a "road trip" style film. Bunny and the Bull also features comedy favourites Noel Fielding, Richard Ayoade and Julian Barratt.

So with that pedigree of comedy greatness, I can imagine this to be great.

Check the trailer out below.
